Haki Madini Tanzania
Arusha, Tanzania,
Dear Mr. Amani Mustafa Mhinda,
Re: Launch of Study Report on the Contribution of Elections Management Bodies (EMBs) to Democracy and Good Governance in Eastern Africa.
Kituo Cha Katiba: Eastern Africa Centre for Constitutional Development (KcK) in partnership with the Open Society Institute for Eastern Africa (OSIEA) invites you to the above launch, on Thursday 28th May, 2015 at Mt Meru Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania.
The publication is the result of a comparative study commissioned in 2014 by AfriMAP and OSIEA, which focuses on the five countries of the East African Community (EAC), and assesses the contribution of electoral management bodies (EMBs) to the quality of citizen’s participation in public affairs in the region. The event will provide an opportunity for further discussion of recommendations on the role of EMBs in East Africa (EA), including key reforms to ensure that they fulfill their mandate in accordance with sub-regional, continental and international standards.
The launch will bring together key stakeholders in the region working in the area of elections including representatives of EMBs, civil society, technocrats of the EAC working on political federation, members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and at continental level representatives from the African Union (AU).
The organisers will provide participants flying into Arusha with an economy class return ticket, inland transport in Arusha and accommodation and meals.
Kindly confirm your availability by Friday 15th May, 2015 to allow for the necessary logistical arrangements. Should you require further information, please contact Ms. Joyce Apio on Tel: +256-41-533295; email [email protected]/[email protected]
We thank you in anticipation of your positive consideration and look forward to hosting you.
Yours faithfully,

HakiMadini is a community based not for profit organization established and registered in 2001 under society ordinance. It started operations in the late 1990s as an activism group for artisanal mineworkers. It has developed over time as a strong representative body for small scale mining communities in Northern Tanzanian.
Hakimadini envisages a just fair and transparent mineral resource use, control and management in Tanzania.
Our mission is to strengthen the capacities of artisanal/ small scale miners and the local community to engage, participate and benefit from the mineral wealth, as well as to defend and promote basic human rights.
HakiMadini is structured using a hybrid programming system combining grass-root socioeconomic development with national, regional and international advocacy. The grass-root work involves Human Rights (HR) training, capacity building on micro credit and savings, value addition, entrepreneurship and market information. Our advocacy program involves working with media groups highlighting disadvantaged groups, connecting mining stakeholders through community forums, lobbying at parliament, research, and campaigning with like minded organisations on issues such as children?s rights and family violence.
