The GIZ Programme “Strengthening the Capacities of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights” is offering an Internship opportunity in the field of Information and Communication Technology
The intern will have an opportunity to learn in the following areas via hands-on methods
a) Gain experience in providing users guidance and second level support by assisting in problem resolution.
b) Coordinating the process of adding and updating information to the website of the Court under supervision of the ICT Specialist.
c) How to research emerging technologies to maintain the website (both Internet and Intranet).
d) How to maintain systems (Microsoft) and network services (e.g. DNS, Active Directory, WINS, SMTP, Web, Print, Terminal Server, Backup, Antivirus).
e) How to maintain desktop applications and services (e.g., Microsoft, Mac and Adobe applications, Antivirus).
f) How provide assistance to users and administer user accounts, mailboxes, and permissions.
g) How to troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues.
h) How to install, configure, and maintain Microsoft servers.
i) How to install, configure, and maintain Microsoft desktop systems.
j) How to rebuild PC’s with fresh installs of Windows XP Professional.
k) How to create full backups of systems using Ghost.
l) How to research new products and technologies.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
The candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
a) Knowledge of TCP/IP stacks and their functionality;
b) Advanced knowledge and troubleshooting of Windows Server 2003/2008, Linux (RedHat/Debian, Centos);
c) Basic Knowledge in database application (MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft, SQL Server 2005/2008) installation and basic maintenance;
d) Skills in repairing and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, computer networking and printers.
e) Understanding of technical manuals and schematics
f) Experience with backup and image management software
g) Conversant with and able to troubleshoot Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007, Microsoft IE 6, 7 and 8
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Good command of English.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION.
Candidates must have a minimum of an advanced diploma in Computer science/Information Technology. Ongoing Certification studies in hardware and software support (server, desktops, printers and laptops) is an added advantage. Candidates that have already gained some practical experience in the field will be preferred.
